Greetings from sunny Aberystwyth! We are having a great, relaxing time, although we are running about here and there. (But that’s what you do on trips to Europe, right?). We’ve lunched in the Cabin, had a drink in the White Horse (now ‘Varsity’) where I first met my sister-in-law, Cynthia, seen the Olympic exhibition in the National Library of Wales on famous Welsh athletes (all in Aberystwyth). We’ve been to Tywyn, Aberaeron, Aberdyfi, up to Bala and Betws-y-Coed, which is very pretty. There, I had an excellent salmon with lovely veg.
Today, we’re attending a local golf charity event called FUGS. Last night, Jean went out round town for a reunion of her 1986 darts team. Jean’s still in bed, recovering. I think she got home at a quarter to 2. We’ve seen a fair bit of everyone, had dinner at Alison’s at Llanilar, had a pint in The Falcon, Dylan’s pub opposite his house (very convenient), where I met the former editor of the Cambrian News, Peter Roberts. In the pub, there are actually pictures on the walls of Dylan’s and Alison’s house, something you wouldn’t get in Australia.
Next week, we make a flash visit to Northern Ireland.
