Yesterday, we had a special tour of the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth. Like the National Library of Australia, it receives a copy of every published book, newspaper, magazine, periodical, film etc published in the country. It is one of six copyright libraries in the UK, the others being the British Library in London, two libraries in Oxford and Cambridge, the National Library of Scotland, and the other’s in Ireland, I think Trinity College. The NLW apparently has excellent resources for tracing one’s family history, and Ancestry.com is free of charge within the Library. Aberystwyth being Aberystwyth, the tour guide, Emyr, knows my parents-in-law as well as my sister-in-law, Cynthia, and her mother. Aber is like Canberra only much, much worse.
